Murasaki Shikibu The Tale of Genji

As per the Tale of Genji, a Japanese feature story by Murasaki Shikibu, a writer representing the history of Japanese literature in the middle of the Heian period, it is said that it consists of words of 54 tatami mats. 

Currently, it is read not only in Japan but also in other countries around the world through translations in more than 20 languages. 

After that, it was reproduced as a Genji story through the painting with Nishijin Art Ori. 

Among the existing picture scrolls, those owned by the Tokugawa Art Museum and the Gotoh Museum are the national treasures.
