Shorinji Temple Eleven- faced Kannon

Ruriiro is a bright blue color with a deep purple tinge. Originally, “Ruri” is a jewel from Mt. Shumi, which rises in the center of the Buddhist world and is one of the Buddhist cloisonne.

The lapis lazuli color associated with the color of the jewel was also sacred as the supreme color. Its transparent hue is reminiscent of the quiet and fantastic deep sea. 

The Nishijin art weave of the 11-faced Kannon statue, a national treasure of Shorinji Temple, is woven with this lapis lazuli.
